Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Primo Maggio

written by Young in Rome April 29, 2011

This Sunday, while one half of Rome will play host to potentially millions of pilgrims journeying in to see JPII’s beatification, there will be some serious rock and roll going down on the other side. The annual Primo Maggio concert is taking over San Giovanni, which seems like it will lead to a serious aural collision with the blessings across town. While the metro and buses are sure to be un casino all weekend, ATAC has generously decided to close down the Manzoni and San Giovanni stops on Sunday afternoon. The program is scheduled to start around 3pm, but what with this lack of metro service and all, you’ll probably want to just camp out on Saturday night to catch the musical stylings of Lucio Dalla e Francesco De Gregori, Ennio Morricone, Gino Paoli, i Subsonica, Daniele Silvestri, Caparezza, Peppe Servillo e Fausto Mesolella, Modena City Ramblers, Bandabardò, Edoardo Bennato, Paola Turci, Eugenio Finardi, Enzo Avitabile (con Raiz e Cò Sang), Bandervish, Luca Barbarossa and Edoardo De Angelis.

Oh, and like most things we get excited about, it’s totally free.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
