Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

This Weekend in Rome: Nov 4-6

written by Young in Rome November 4, 2011

Your concert venue this evening

Friday: Composer, conductor, Spaghetti Western score-writer (think the awesomely shiver-inducing whistle/yodel theme to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly), and all-around maestro Ennio Morricone will be leading a free orchestral and choral concert tonight in Piazza del Popolo at 9pm in honor of today’s celebration of National Armed Forces Day.  It’s hard to say no to a man who found a way to make Clint Eastwood even cooler.

Saturday: While we’re hoping that the events of October 15th aren’t repeated, the Partito Democratic has planned a national demonstration for tomorrow, with protests, speeches and music planned all afternoon in San Giovanni.  Wanted in Rome has information on bus diversions and street closures. If you’re looking for a different kind of diversion, Mojo Station is hosting the 7th Annual Blues Festival around Rome. Check out the program for more information on blues shows in San Lorenzo, Pigneto, and Tiburtina.

Sunday: Tired of city living and only decent olive oil? Head up to Trevi in Umbria for some country air and the annual Olio in Festa to taste brand new shrubbery byproduct (probably the worst possible way to describe olive oil) when it’s just off the trees and freshly pressed. Tastings and folk music last all afternoon in this medieval hilltop town located just an hour and a half train ride away from Termini.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
