If you’re anything like me, you’ve adopted the ‘just go’ strategy when crossing the stirring streets of Rome. Unless you take the first step into the car/motorino/bike burdened street, there is no way you are going to cross. That is, unless you will be in center this Sunday….
Sunday, November 20th, NO cars will be allowed in the urban parts of Rome. Private cars may not enter into the ‘fascia verde’/green area of Rome, aka all these locations.
Smog levels have become too high, enforcing a blockade from 8:30 Am – 5:30 PM. Tickets will be doled out to those that do not comply (155 euro)! This will be the first of 4 planned ‘no-car’ days in Rome.
Bus service on 86 different lines will be bumped-up, as well as service on the metro lines.
In addition to a carless Rome, there will be much ‘green’ activity going on around the city, in an effort to educate the people in all things environment. Starting at 8:30 AM, stop by Via dei Fori Imperiali and check out all the stands set up by various organizations. Not only will materials be handed out, but special performances and games will be conducted all day!
You go Roma! Get on with yo’ green self!
