Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Martedi in Arte + MAXXI – Free Stuff this Week

written by Young in Rome November 28, 2011

Pantheon by night

Tomorrow, Tuesdsay November 29th, marks the second to last Martedi in Arte of 2011 – that glorious Tuesday evening that comes but once a month when some of Rome’s best museums reopen at night from 7pm until 11 and get rid of those pesky entrance fees while they’re at it! As always, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Museo Nazionale Romano (Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, Palazzo Altemps, Terme di Diocleziano, and Crypta Balbi), Pantheon, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica in Palazzo Barberini, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica in Palazzo Corsini, Museo e Galleria Borghese, Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant’Angelo, and Villa d’Este (Tivoli) are participating in this special evening.

In addition to Tuesday’s festivities, this week you also have the opportunity to visit one of Rome’s contemporary art museums free of charge. On Thursday, December 1st, in celebration of the second anniversary of the signing of the Lisbon Treaty, which forms the current constitutional basis for the European Union, the EU itself is sponsoring a free day at the MAXXI.  From 11am until last entrance at 9pm, admission is free of charge and allows you access not only to the MAXXI’s current exhibitions and permanent collection, but the special photography show Italy in Europe – Europe in Italy. A history of European integration in 250 shots which depicts European integration from the Cold War to the present.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
