Friday: Grab your skates and a scarf and head up to the Parco della Musica for the opening of their invernal ice rink this afternoon. Eight euros gets you on the ice and a pair of skates on which to glide around. From now until December 23rd, the rink is open from 2pm-9pm Monday thru Thursday, from 2pm-midnight on Fridays, 10am-2am on Saturdays, and 10am-midnight on Sundays. It all changes again after Christmas, so we’ll address that later…
Tonight at 9, world-renowned pianist Roberto Cappello takes the stage at Piazza Navona’s Sant’Agnese in Agone to play a selection of Liszt and Schubert.
Saturday: MACRO Testaccio opens a new Steve McCurry retrospective on Saturday. McCurry is an American photojournalist known for, among other remarkable works and accomplishments, the National Geographic cover “Afghan Girl”, and for shooting the last ever produced roll of Kodak’s Kodachrome film – presumably with his Nikon camera. The show runs through April, and the 11 euro ticket also includes access to the main MACRO location within the week of purchase.

Sunday: Get started on your holiday shopping with a trip to the Mercato Monti in the Hotel Palatino (Via Leonina 46 in Monti). If you’re looking to get out of town, hop a train out to the Polenta Sagra in Mandela, about an hour outside of Rome. Festivities start with olive mill tours at 10am, and continue throughout the day with polenta, sausage, and olio nuovo tastings, before concluding in grand fashion with a fireworks show.
