Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Weekend at the Club: Famous DJs and Swing Dancing

written by December 15, 2011

For those going out of town for Christmas, you have one more weekend in Rome to go crazy! As always, there are many events going on, so here’s a quick mention of a few choice ones.

Friday, December 16th: Super famous LA-based DJ Steve Aoki will be spinning his electro-dance beats Friday night at Atlantico. Dragging oneself all the way to EUR is always …interesting… but Steve Aoki is awesome enough to make the long bus ride worth it. There are two other sets going on before Mr. Aoki, so I wouldn’t expect him to hit the stage before 1-1:30 AM. AKA- bring a flask filled with espresso.
Where: Atlantico, Viale dell’Oceano Atlantico, 271
Price: 20 euros
More info, in Italian, here.

L-Ektrica Deluxe! Also going on this Friday night is a live performance by NYC-based electro-retro-futuristic group, Metro Area. As it is described on the flyer, expect a night resembling ‘a cruise ship-paced cocktail party, on board of the Star Trek Enterprise.’ If that doesn’t get you curious about creative band Metro Area I don’t know what will!
Where: Lanificio159, Via Petralata 159/a
Price: 10 euros + drink before 1 AM, after, 15 euros + drink
More in here, in Italian.

Saturday, December 17th: Do something different: be transported to the 40s! Head over to Ristotheatre for ‘Swing All Night Long,’ bringing food, dance, music, and fashion together for a a truly ‘vintage’ night. There will also be a corner dedicated to hair and makeup, in case you can’t get that 40s-50s ‘do’ all perfect on your own.
Where: Ristotheatre, Via Celsa 6
Price: 20 euros for dinner + drink (40s-50s American theme dinner), or just 10 euros for the partay + drink!
For more info, check out this site, only in Italian.

Sunday, December 18th: Happy Sunday Market Special Edition at Lanificio Factory!
This seems to be an all day event that starts with a light breakfast at 11 AM. Then from 12:30 – 3:30 PM you can enjoy the brunch, specially cooked up by Lanificio’s restaurant (reservations recommended). Then from 7 PM on enjoy the DJ and live sets with multiple bands taking the stage. While all of this is going on, make sure to pick up some gifts from the special holiday market being held all day long.
Where: Lanificio159, Via Pietralata, 159/a

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
