Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

This Weekend in Rome: January 27-January 29

written by Young in Rome January 27, 2012

Friday: There’s already plenty going on today, between Berlin DJ Boys Noize playing a set at Atlantico, awesome wine expo Sensofwine entering its second day at the Palazzo dei Congressi, and transportation workers across the nation going on strike, but there’s always room to add one more to the mix. And you’re in luck, because Rome’s Fashion Week starts today, with the opening of the new Louis Vuitton store in Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina.

Saturday: Galleria Mostrarti launches the latest incarnation of their Open Art Market at 6pm on Saturday. This show/art market hybrid, which runs throughout the month of February is an opportunity for contemporary art investors and aficionados of all ranks to add to their collections – prices start at only 49 euro.  And even if you’re not in the market, the show is free entry, and located just steps away from Open Baladin. Nothing sets you up for craft beer and potatoes like a bit of art.

Sunday: This Sunday is your last chance to see a retrospective of Dutch Neoplasticist painter Piet Mondrian (he of the primary colored grid-like paintings) at the Complesso Vittoriano. The show, called “Perfect Harmony”, is 12 euro and will be open until 8:30 pm on Sunday.  To fuel up for the show, check out the American brunch at Les Affiches on Via Santa Maria dell’Anima (near Navona) from 1-4pm. While this new brunch offering is not yet Young in Rome-approved (in that we haven’t tried it yet…), Les Affiches does offer one of our top five aperitivo, so fingers crossed this new weekend offering delivers. We hear they even have eggs.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
