Even if you’re just visiting Rome for a few days, you have probably spent some time in Trastevere. The area gets its name from the fact that it is on the other side of the river, or ‘beyond the Tiber,’ which becomes ‘attraverso il Tevere’ in Italian, or, Trastevere. It is a great neighborhood for taking a walk during the day, or grabbing a drink and dinner in the evening. The area has a rich history, and an overall great vibe.
So what do you call a trip to Trastevere then? A trasteverata.
‘Che fai stasera?’ – What are you doing tonight?
‘Una trasteverata.’ – I’m hanging out in Trastevere
It’s not an official Italian word, but is commonly used in Rome.
