Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Dancing: May 11-12

written by May 10, 2012

Friday, May 11:

Rebel Rebel: In an effort to mimic famous Berlin nightlife, Friday’s party will be going on til the wee hours of the morning. Berlin DJ Marcel Dettmann and Leeds DJ Midland are the two big names tomorrow night, so get ready to ‘Party til the first train passes’.
Where: Andrea Doria – Via del Baiardo 26
When: After 11 PM
Cost: 10 euro
For more info check out the Facebook invite.

Touch the Wood: Performing for the first time in Rome tomorrow night is BlackBird Blackbird, hailing from San Francisco (go America!). Last.fm explains, ‘His reverb-laden musical collages tend to lean towards anthemic, inspirational, and dream-driven themes.’ I have no idea what that means, but it’s a kind of synth-pop, electro/ambient…er… it’s just really good. That’s all you need to know.
Where: Radio Cafè – Via Principe Umberto, 67
When: 11:45 PM
Cost: 8 euro with a cocktail, if you email your name and number in your group to: touchthewood@live.it. Otherwise it’s 10 euro with a cocktail.
For more info check out the Facebook invite.

Saturday May 12:

//ZOO//: Remember our interviewee, Pietro, the aspiring notary? Well guess what? He also plays the drums for Roman group TESTAINTASCA. Check out a couple of their original rock-y songs here. Apart from supporting Pietro and his band, two other bands (Il Movente and Loud South) will be playing, as well as a DJ set (Supermarket). This event is a great opportunity to discover some new music, so don’t miss it! (Plus Pietro says his band rocks hardcore and it will be ‘una selvaggia cavalcata nell’italia contemporanea….’)
Where: Big Bang – Via di Monte Testaccio,22
When: 10 PM
Cost: Free before 11 PM, 5 euro w/a flyer or if you click ‘going’ on Facebook event, otherwise it’s 7 euro.

Heads Up: A lot of locales and clubs in Rome close for the summer season, because it’s just too hot to keep partying indoors! Some spots open ‘summer’ outposts, while some other finally open after a long winter of being closed.  Stay tuned for updates.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
