Friday: Former prison guard turned kick-ass soul singer Sharon Jones is coming to town tonight with her band the Dap-Kings. They’ll be performing in Piazzale del Verano in San Lorenzo as part of the San Lorenzo Estate summer series. Tickets are 17 euro, and even though I’ve seen them twice for free (thank you, open air stages in Prospect Park and former employment at a radio station), I can guarantee that it would be worth every centessimo to go see them. It’s like, throwback neo-soul that you just can’t help grooving to. See you there.
Saturday: What? You’ve never had gorgonzola gelato served with cubes of mortadella? You have been missing out, and should probably attend the Aperi-gelato at Il Gelato di Claudio Torce on Saturday evening. This gelateria – a Young in Rome Top Five Pick™ no less – is hosting the latest in its series of gelato aperitivos, or “Aperi-gelato”. From 6pm until midnight, swing by their spot in Piazza Monte d’Oro near the Ara Pacis. For 6 euro, you get three savory gelato samples and a glass of wine, and a small donation to a local charity.
Sunday: Wind down your weekend with a movie under the stars. The screen at Castel Sant’Angelo is projecting Midnight in Paris, you can catch This Must Be the Place outside San Pietro in Vincoli, head up to Monteverde to watch Carnage, or cross over to the Isola del Cinema complex on Tiburina Island to watch The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. At Isola, movies cost 6 euro and start at 9:30, all the others cost 5 and start at 9:15.

Great list! Any idea whether the movies are in English?
Pretty sure they’re all dubbed into Italian!
