Friday: Yoga is always so much better with a view, right? Head up to the MAXXI this afternoon at 1:30 for their Move in YAP! Yoga lessons. 4 euro for the session, which takes place on the top floor of the contemporary art museum. Following yoga, head around the corner to Neve di Latte at Via Poletti 6 for the best gelato experience of your life. Well, top five, easily. It’s a good thing that all this stretching and gelato is the perfect warmup for tonight’s Olympic Opening Ceremony!!!!! The festivities kick off in London at 10pm, and will be broadcast here in Rome in all of your favorite locations (read: Scholars Lounge). So put on your country’s colors, and track down some British food to get in the London 2012 spirit (we recommend Filetto di Baccala near Campo de’ Fiori, as that’s pretty much the closest you’re gonna get to Fish ‘n Chips around here). Not that the Young in Rome team is partial or anything, but let me just conclude this with a good ole USA! USA! USA!
Saturday: Expect your Olympic fever to start rising Saturday morning with the first full day of competition. Follow the London 2012 website to be sure not to miss your favorite events. Saturday morning highlights include preliminary heats for the Men’s Swimming 400 Individual Medley, which is really just a great event to watch and I’m not pointing it out because it marks Ryan Lochte’s first appearance at the games. Remember what I said about partiality before? Also, don’t forget that the Villa d’Este in Tivoli is open late on Friday and Saturday nights all summer, so head out there for a city escape and some palace and garden wandering. The Villa closes at midnight, which leaves you plenty of time to get back to Rome and dance your face off.
Sunday: The Appia Antica has long been a Young in Rome favorite Sunday spot. Enhance the experience this week with a stop by the Capo di Bove to see Marmo, Latte, e Biancospino (Marble, Milk, and Hawthornes). This photography show depicts the ancient road in its newer role as picnic and frolicking destination. The show is open from 10-6, so stop by first and pick up some tips for how you should spend your Sunday in antiquity. Sunday night, head over to Castel Sant’Angelo, and prepare to have your pants charmed off by either Woody Allen’s “To Rome with Love”, or Martin Scorsese’s mash letter to the movies “Hugo”. Both films start at 9:15, and tickets are 5 euro.
