Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Weekend Fun: August 2-4

written by August 2, 2012

TESTAINTASCA playing live at Circolo degli Artisti

Notti di Cinema a Piazza Vittorio – From now until September 2, head over to Piazza Vittorio for movie nights! There are two maxi-screens set up, and depending on the night, you can choose from four different movies, at two different times. I assume the movies are shown in original language with Italian subtitles, or just dubbed in Italian, couldn’t really tell. Check out the full program for dates and times. There’s a nice mix of Italian films as well as international selections.
Where: Piazza Vittorio
When: Starting times between 8:30 PM and 10:40 PM – but check the program to be sure.
Cost: 7 euros gets you into both films on the same screen – but if you change screens you need to get a different ticket!
There’s also a Facebook page for the film series!

Thursday August 2

Placebo: British alternative rock band Placebo hits the stage tonight as part of the Rock in Roma festival. It’s the last show in the summer concert series, so if you haven’t been, this is your last chance! Also, it’s Placebo.
Where: Ippodromo delle Capannelle –  Via Appia Nuova, 1255
When: Concert starts at 9:45 PM
Cost: 35 euros
For more info, check out the Rock in Roma website.

Friday August 3

TESTAINTASCA: Apart from being both personally (e.g. look at the drummer) and professionally interested (e. g. past YiR interviewee, Pietro) in this super original Roman band, they are also just really really good. I’ve been to all their shows this summer and they sure know how to rock a stage. There are also two other bands performing, so you can get your fill of Italian music for the evening. The concerts are at Circolo, so head over early to hang out in their luscious outdoor space!
Where: Circolo degli Artisti – Via Casilina Vecchia, 42
When: 10 PM
Cost: FREE!!
For more info check out Circolo’s event page, TESTAINTASCA’s Facebook fan page, or the Facebook invite.

Saturday August 4

Avanguardie Russe: Very cool! Sweet museum along the Tiber, Ara Pacis opens its door at night for every Saturday in the month of August! You can see their Russian avantgarde exhibit, showcasing works from Kandinskij, Rodchenko, and Chagall, just to name a few.
Where: Ara Pacis – Lungotevere in Augusta
When: From 8 PM to midnight, every Saturday until Sept. 1
Cost: 15 euros, reduced is 11 euros
For more info check out Ara Pacis’ website.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
