Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Tuesday October 2: Mega Transport Strike!

written by October 1, 2012

We’ve got some bad news for y’all… well for anyone that needs to leave the house tomorrow. It’s been a while since the last ATAC transport strike, miraculously, but alas, la pacchia è finita, and there’s another 24 hour strike scheduled for Tuesday, October 2nd.

In true 24-hour strike fashion, public transport is not guaranteed starting at midnight tonight. Then reopening from 5:30 AM – 8:30 AM, all the early birds can get to where they need to go. From 8:30 AM until 5 PM, service on any bus, metro, or tram is not guaranteed. Then just in time for people to get home, from 5 PM until 8 PM, service should resume. But then again from 8 PM until the end midnight, no transportation guaranteed.

To sum it up, tomorrow until 8:30 AM, and from 5 PM to 8 PM, transportation should be running normally. Check the ATAC site for details.

Good luck everyone!

Wow, my first transport strike in Rome! 🙂 I guess I shouldn’t be too excited. Thanks so much for heads up!

Sorry to have to introduce you to something as frustrating as a transport strike! However I should say that if you are traveling around during the day, between 8:30 AM – 5 PM, you will see a few buses running. From what I understand, sometimes it’s up to the bus driver to decide if he/she is striking or not. In other words, I always found that I could catch SOME buses, and maybe after a few hours, reach my destination, even during a strike.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
