Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Dance Here: March 2-3

written by March 2, 2012

Friday March 2nd:

HEY TODAY! – Pretty pretty awesome electro music German duo, Hey Today will be DJing tonight at Testaccio’s AKAB. They will be followed by the resident AKAB DJs. Just putting it out there- if you show up, you may run into a few Young in Rome editors/writers, dancing their faces off, as I like to put it.
For more info, check out the Facebook invite. Doors open at 11:30 PM.
Cost: If you put yourself on the list (link included in the FB invite), it’s €10, drink included. Otherwise it’s €10 without a drink.
Address:  Via di Monte Testaccio, 69

SMASH! POMPO NELLE CASSE – Back-up for my dancing-my-face-off plans at AKAB is Circolo degli Illuminati‘s event tonight, featuring Italian’s own electro-rap group, Power Francers. They will be followed by the resident DJs of Circolo degli Illuminati.
For more info, check out the Facebook invite. Doors open at 11:00 PM.
Cost: If you put yourself on the list (write your name on the invite’s wall), it’s €10, including a shot. Otherwise it’s €10 without a shot.
Address: Via Libetta, 1

Velvet Cabaret- Friday I’m In Love – If you head over to the Micca Club around 10 PM,  you can catch the famous burlesque show by the cast of Velvet Cabaret. And after 11 PM or so, they will be playing a mix of ‘Top 50’s Rock’n’Roll – 60’s Surf & Soul – Italian Beat 60’s – Disco Dance 70’s – 80’s Pop Hits.’ It’s actually pretty fun to dance to music that you would only otherwise hear at weddings and bar mitzvahs.
For more info check out Micca’s website, in Italian.
Cost: €10 if you add your name to the list, €15 if you just show up. (Lista Riduzioni form on their website).
Address: Via Pietro Micca, 7a

Saturday March 3rd:

KOUDLAM– Super ‘in’ and famous French electro and indie-pop musician, Koudlam, is playing at Qube on Saturday night. (He is also dubbed the ‘French Symphonic Composer’) The word around town is that this one is not to be missed. (Even though, it seems to be in the middle of no where, no not EUR this time).
For more info, check out the Facebook invite.
Cost: If you send an email to touchthewood@live.it to be added to the list, it’s €10 with drink, otherwise €15 euro with drink.
Where:  Via di Portonaccio, 212

tUnE yArDs + Steffi – Kicking off Lanificio’s ‘Female in March’ series is American artist, Merrill Garbus of the Tune Yards, showcasing her unique mix of folk and R&B. Following is Steffi, the fierce female resident electro DJ of Berlin’s super famous and awesome Panorama Bar (I <3 Berlin!)
For more info, check out Lanificio’s site, in Italian. Doors open at 11 PM.
Cost: €15 from 9 PM- midnight, then it’s €15 with a drink after midnight (oddly.)
Where: Via Pietralata, 159

Just FYI – I only write about the events that I would personally attend, or events that I think sound good. If you want a complete list of all the festas going on in Rome during the weekend, check out Roma Zero. It’s a great site that compiles all kinds of events in a daily, easy to read way.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
