Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

Let’s Hear it for the Girls – International Women’s Day, March 8th

written by Young in Rome March 6, 2012

Thursday, March 8th marks this year’s edition of International Women’s Day – a global day of celebration and recognition of women. Although the holiday actually has its roots in the early 20th Century socialist movement, it is today celebrated around the world in developed and developing nations of all economic systems.  Here in Italy, the day is marked with the presentation of mimosa flowers  and free entry to museums.  All of the state (MiBAC) museums are participating (which includes the sites normally included in Martedi in Arte, plus daytime sites like the Colosseum and Forum), as well as the Musei in Comune, with the exception of the Steve McCurry show at MACRO Testaccio. Considering the Musei in Comune include the Capitoline Museums, this might be a good time to check out Lux in Arcana, the Vatican Archives exhibition at the Capitoline, now in its second week. Additionally, the MAXXI is offering a reduced admission to women.

So ladies, if you want to get your culture on, Thursday’s the day.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
