Friday: The streets were a sea of celebration until the wee hours of the morning. Horns honking, flares flashing. Today, shops are closed, no one is at work or school, it will probably be super annoying to find an open supermarket, and buses are running on a Sunday/holiday schedule. City-wide holiday in reaction to last night’s incredible win by Italy over Germany in the Euro 2012 semis? Not quite…today also just so happens to be The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul – the Patron Saints of Rome. And this only means one thing – fireworks off of Castel Sant’Angelo at 9:30pm tonight. Also, the cinema at L’Isola del Cinema is now officially open, and they are screening J. Edgar tonight at 9:30. Tickets are 6 euro.
Saturday: For an air conditioned break from this weekend’s record heat, head inside the Complesso del Vittoriano for the final day of the Salvador Dali show. Things should cool off by the evening, and there’s not better place to enjoy the night air than watching the Rome opera and ballet’s summer season at the Terme di Caracalla. Opening night is this Saturday, June 30th as “Giselle” takes the stage. Tickets are available online here. Also, Radiohead is playing out at the Ippodromo Capanelle as part of Rock in Roma, but that’s been sold out for weeks. Just thought I’d share 🙂
Sunday: I hope you don’t have any plans for Sunday evening, because there’s kind of a big game on. Italy has defied all doubts and expectations, and will be facing off against Spain in the finals of the European Championship. As with Thursday night’s semi, the game will be on in pubs across the city, as well as on quite a few big screens set up outside – including Roma Vintage, San Lorenzo, Parco del Celio, Circolo degli Artisti, and at Porte di Roma and Roma Est. Word on the street is the city-sponsored screen will be at Piazza del Popolo again, but we’ll update you all if anything changes. UPDATE: The big screens will be at Circo Massimo instead of Piazza del Popolo. GO! Either way. Sunday night, 8:45 pm, Italy v. Spain. Watch it. And FORZA ITAAAAAAALIA!!!!!
