Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

This Weekend in Rome: October 14-16

written by Young in Rome October 14, 2011

View from the Curva Sud

Friday: The Romaeuropa festival continues tonight with Mario Brunello presenting a contemporary look at Bach’s “The Art of Fugue” at the Palladium.  Tickets are 25 euro to catch the violinist take on JSB’s enigma (said to be based on Pythagorean philosophical principles – whatever that means?) with accompanying visual effects.

Saturday: Parla Food and VinoRoma are co-hosting “Spotlight on Lazio” – a one-night only event at Il Bacocco in Trastevere highlighting the wines and food of Lazio, Rome’s very own region.  Check out the website for more info and to book a spot. Also on Saturday, Rome street artist HOGRE is having an opening at Laszlo Biro, a Pigneto space for street art awesomely named after the inventor of the ballpoint pen. For more info on HOGRE, check out Pen in Rome’s interview last spring.

Sunday: The Derby. Roma v. Lazio. Bust out your giallorosso (red and yellow), or, um…powder blue for this inter-city showdown. Rome’s Daniele de Rossi will lead Roma (hometown hero and captain Francesco Totti is out this week with a thigh injury) against their crosstown rivals Lazio up at the Stadio Olimpico (technically home turf for both sides).  Check out Roma’s website for a list of ticket vendors (click “English Version –> Ticketing –> Lazio-Roma to open the PDF with info for this week’s game), but it might be sold out by now.

All weekend: The Piet Mondrian exhibit at the Complesso Vittoriano is now open, along with the Fillipino Lippi and Botticelli show at the Scuderie del Quirinale, and Georgia O’Keefe at Palazzo Cipolla on Via del Corso which both opened earlier this month.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
