Which Way to Rome

the magic of getting lost but finding home wherever you are

McHurry to MACRO for the Steve McCurry Exhibit!

written by December 22, 2011

The domed display

Head over to the butcher-house-turned-MACRO-museum in Testaccio for the Steve McCurry exhibit, and be visually stimulated by his stunning photography exhibit!

Steve McCurry is an American photojournalist best known for his photograph, ‘Afghan Girl,’ originally featured in National Geographic Magazine. But once you get to this exhibit, you can see how large the scope of his work really is, with photographs from all over the world.
Not only are the photograph sites plentiful, but he also captures events that range from heartbreaking to romantic to ecstatic to shocking to gleeful.

The MACRO was able to transform its unique space to accommodate (what seemed like) over 100 of McCurry’s photographs. They erected dome-shaped constructions, and hung the photographs on the inside of the domes. One walks from dome to dome, checking out all the photographs, while listening to various kinds of music.

The exhibit runs until April 29th, so I urge you all to go! You won’t be disappointed.
For more information, hours of operation, and ticket prices, check out the MACRO site.

My Story

A smidgen about me: growing up bouncing back and forth between Rome and Northern California, I eventually moved back to the Eternal City to finish college and then decided I liked gelato too much to move away again. Today I split my time between Tunis, where I work for an international organization, and wandering around my beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso. Read more…
